Fourth of July Interview with Edge
WWE.com: So I imagine you're in a pretty good mood right now.
Edge: I can't get this smile off my face. It hasn't left since we won. Even out there during the match I was trying not to smile, it was so much fun. I never thought that I would get to pose down with Hulk, or tag with him ever. But to win the Tag Team Championship -- he's never won the Tag Team Championship before. It's the eighth time for me, and it's my third championship here (at FleetCenter). Two tag teams and a U.S. Championship here -- this city has been good to me.
You just can't beat that kind of electricity. When a crowd is like that -- they just love Hulk -- and you feel that electricity, it makes the match so much better.
WWE.com: It must have been pretty cool to see him come out to "Real American" again.
Edge: Oh, man. I got the goosebumps. I was singing along, tapping my foot, and then I said, "Uh oh, I wonder if the camera's on me -- better be careful." It was so much fun. It was the kind of deal where I just stood in the corner and let him soak that in, because that's his moment. And to have the kind of match we did -- I was so happy with it. So happy with it. We had a nice little story. We had the crowd thinking that Billy & Chuck might pull this one off. And then we were able to do it. (laughs)
WWE.com: What was your reaction when you won?
Edge: Holy s**t! (laughs) I told my mom, and she will probably be in tears (when she sees it). She was there watching me do all that stuff when I was growing up, when I cried when Hulk was getting attacked by King Kong Bundy, literally in tears. I've said before that you can't really describe it, and that's true even more so for this. I can't really put words to it. It's just awesome.
WWE.com: Where does this rank among your career highlights?
Edge: It's right up there. Yikes. It's right up there with the first Intercontinental and the first Tag Team Title wins. I think maybe the only one that will surpass it is when I win the WWE Championship one day.
WWE.com: Being a native Canadian, the Fourth of July is just another day to you, but this past Monday was Canada Day, so it is kind of patriotic for you anyway?
Edge: Yeah, I almost felt like a sellout holding the American flag in the ring. (laughs) Also, Monday was the nine-year anniversary of my first match too. My first match was July 1, 1993, so nine years later, here we are.
WWE.com: How did the shoulder feel during the match?
Edge: Shoulder's feeling good. No hesitation. I haven't felt any. I asked Fit Finlay, who's completely honest and will tell you if you look like s**t, and he said, "You're not holding back." And I think Kurt would agree that I wasn't holding back on the house shows. (laughs)
WWE.com: What did you think of your first big boot and legdrop on TV?
Edge: I was afraid I was going to fall on my ass on the boot. (laughs) We held onto each other for dear life so we wouldn't tip backwards. I was originally going to do it with my left leg, and I said, "I don't know if I can do this. I don't think I'm coordinated enough to do this." So I said, OK, let's go for the righty. I don't think I got too much height, but I think I stiffed him with it. (laughs)
