Helms has his goals in sight
By Nicole Carlucci

Since knowing him as Shane Helms for most of his sports-entertainment career, many people may be shocked and confused as to why this WCW star has changed his name to Gregory Helms. Well the answer to that burning question is simple. Gregory is his actual first name; Shane is his middle name. When asked, Helms told WCW.com, "They told me to change it."

As excited as Helms was to make his debut as part of the new WCW on the July 5 episode of SmackDown!, Helms wasn't totally happy. He lost his Cruiserweight Championship to Billy Kidman, a title he has held since March. "It sucked", Gregory said about his loss. "But Kidman will be a good champion. He has been before."

Being a part of the WCW is something Helms has worked hard for. Helms sees an even greater opportunity for himself in the WWFE-owned WCW. "WWF is the big show," said Helms. "There is a difference (between the WWFE and the old WCW), The business is so much more organized."

Helms is also thrilled to be working with the Hardy Boyz again. While partnering with Mike Maverick to form The Serial Thrillaz, in independent shows throughout the mid-90's, he faced and defeated the Hardy Boyz. "It's real good working with them again. We always said we wanted to work together again, and we always talked about how cool it would be if we made it to the World Wrestling Federation," Helms said.

Although he has not gotten the chance to work or train with the guys of the Federation yet, Helms is just happy to be here. Helms has set some goals for himself. Of course, right now he is focused on getting back the Cruiserweight Title, but Gregory is also thinking about the future. "I would like to become the Tag Team Champion and maybe work with Kanyon as my partner. I think we would work well together," said Helms.

Helms has a lot of experience in tag team competition. As part of 3-Count, The Serial Thrillaz, and the Bad Street Boys in various organizations, he has held some of the tag titles more than once. However, he has also had much success in singles competition. Besides the WCW Cruiserweight Championship, he has held the WCW Hardcore Championship but is best known for his Cruiserweight offense.

There is no doubt that Helms has a bright future as part of the new WCW. He has a strong work ethic and loves being a part of the business. He has been a fan of the Federation since he was a kid and it has always been a goal of Helms' to work for the Federation. Said the North Carolina native, "Being from the south, the NWA and WCW are real big down there, but the WWF is the big company - WWF is worldwide."
