A Conversation With The World Cruiserweight Champion

SCW fans got a huge surprise back at ROYAL PAIN on April 26th! William Wealth came to the ring and brought with him WCW's Shannon Moore. Wealth & Moore got on the mic and told the fans in Raleigh that they were the best cruiserweights in the world! Then the place went absolutely berzerk as the music of Shane Helms began to play. The World Cruiserweight Champion was on his way to the ring! Shane Helms was back in SCW! Later on in the evening, Shane teamed with Cham Pain as they defeated Moore & Wealth. after the match, Shane sat down with SCWeb's Wicked Walt Rabon.

WICKED WALT: Wrestling fans are still talking about the return of Shane Helms to SCW. How did it feel to be in front of the SCW fans in Raleigh after a two year absence?

SHANE HELMS: No doubt it felt great. These are people that I don't have to prove anything to ya know? They know how hard I busted my ass to get where I'm at!

WICKED WALT: How would you compare the crowd and atmosphere of Kings to that of SCW's original House of Hardcore, The Berkeley Cafe?

SHANE HELMS: Just as crazy! Of course Berkeley was really where SCW first "shined," and King's is keeping it going strong.

WICKED WALT: In the late nineties, you along with Shannon Moore, Jeff Hardy, Joey Matthews, and Christian York displayed some of the best wrestling ever seen in SCW's Junior Heavyweight division. What is your opinion of the new class in SCW such as Laz, Dewey Cheatum, William Wealth, and Caprice Coleman?

SHANE HELMS: Just as ambitious and zealous as we were! Going for it all and holding nothing back.

WICKED WALT: You've had many great matches throughout the years in SCW, which one stands  out in your mind the most?

SHANE HELMS: Defeating Otto Schwanz for the Heavyweight Title. The Tag-Titles that I won with Mike Maverick were a given, because The Serial Thrillaz were the best team around, but nobody expected me to beat Otto. I also had a great match with Joey Matthews that stands out in my mind.

WICKED WALT: Who would you say was your toughest opponent(s) while you were competing full-time on the indies?

SHANE HELMS: As a tag-team, The Hardy's for sure. As a singles, Gemini Kid, Mikael Yamaha, Joey Matthews.

WICKED WALT: And who has been the toughest opponent you have faced in World Championship Wrestling?

SHANE HELMS: Definitely when Shannon Moore and I took on "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash and DDP for the WCW Tag-Titles. After them, The Jung Dragons (pick one) or Billy Kidman.

WICKED WALT: Any talks of a Title vs Title match with WWF's Cruiserweight champ?

SHANE HELMS: Not officially, but I would jump at the opportunity as I'm sure would Jerry Lynn.

WICKED WALT: How did it feel to team with Cham Pain at ROYAL PAIN in the tag match against William Wealth and your former partner Shannon Moore?

SHANE HELMS: I thought we did great considering that we had never ever teamed before. We turned the situation to our advantage and rocked the house. That's what it's about.

WICKED WALT: Thanks for spending time with us Shane, we've enjoyed seeing you in Southern Championship Wrestling and we wish you the best of luck this summer as you return to the big arenas worldwide to defend your WCW World Cruiserweight Title.

SHANE HELMS: No problem, it's always great to come back to SCW, "Shane" Championship Wrestling! LOL!
