Kidman, Wilson to tie the knot

by Phil Speer

Billy Kidman and Torrie Wilson aren't a couple on television. But in real life, they're very much in love.

On Nov. 8, Billy and Torrie celebrated their two-year anniversary together. Leading up to that day, Billy still hadn't popped the question, but Torrie knew that a marriage proposal was imminent.

"Billy is terrible at keeping secrets," Wilson tells WWF.com with a laugh.

A few weeks ago, Wilson was looking for something around the house that they share in Florida, and she came across an invoice from a jewelry store. Then she got another clue when she told Billy that she'd be in the Bahamas on their anniversary for a World Wrestling Federation photo shoot, and that she'd be there on Nov. 8 - their anniversary .

"When I told him I was going to be in the Bahamas, he was so bummed," Torrie said, which led her to believe that there was a major reason that Billy wanted her to be around that day.

But she didn't have to wait too long for the big questions. Last Sunday, Nov. 11, Wilson flew back from the Bahamas to Hartford, Conn., where Billy was wrestling in a live event. The fact that Kidman had to propose to Wilson just outside an airport is an indication of just how busy the two superstars are. Wilson had hoped they could get married this summer, but the couple knew they wouldn't have time to properly plan the ceremony, so it'll probably happen in the spring of 2003. They need to do it during the warmer months as they want to have the wedding outside in Connecticut.

Wilson's engagement ring is a platinum band that holds three karats of diamonds -- one and a half on top and one and a half on the sides.

"This is the perfect ring," Wilson said. "He can read my mind."

It really does seem that the couple can read each other's minds. Ask them why they're attracted to each other, and their answers seem remarkably similar.

"She puts up with all my crap," Kidman joked. "As beautiful as she is, she's the most down-to-earth person."

"From day one, the thing that caught my eye was that he makes me laugh 24 hours a day," Wilson said. "There's never a dull moment. He's such a down-to-earth person."

Wilson laughed, and then added, "And he's hot too."

But as close as they are in real life, the couple would rather not be put together on television, preferring to keep their personal life separate from their occupation. But it can lead to some interesting situations: on the RAW after October's No Mercy, Kidman wrestled Tajiri, who is managed by Wilson. So Wilson was at ringside, and was rooting for the man who was trying to beat up her real-life fiance!

"It's not really that weird because it's work," Kidman said. "We're at work now. It's time to do our jobs. We don't even see each other much."

Said Wilson, "It's easy to separate the two because on television I'm a character and it's a TV show. When I'm on TV with him I think people are looking at us as a real couple and not as characters."

But getting back to the wedding, Kidman and Wilson figured that it'll be a fairly large ceremony - probably about 200 people. Just after the proposal, Wilson called her best friend - Lisa Marie Varon, who wrestles as Victoria and is currently training in Ohio Valley Wrestling - to tell her the news. Varon will be Wilson's maid of honor. Stacy Keibler will be one of the bridesmaids.
