Kidman reflects on solid cruiserweight opener
by Seth Mates

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- His face still red from Tajiri's mist, Kidman spoke with WWF.com just moments after his breathtaking Cruiserweight Championship match at Backlash.

"I felt pretty good out there," Kidman told WWF.com. "We've worked together a few times, and I think we have pretty good chemistry."

The masses at the Kemper Arena were involved in the bout from start to finish, even putting forth a chant of "Kidman! Kidman!" late in the contest. The now former Cruiserweight Champion says the hot Kansas City crowd made the match even more memorable.

"I love 'em," smiled Kidman. "The crowd in Kansas City is always hot. But honestly, I tried not to listen; I just try to concentrate on what's going on out there. But sometimes I couldn't help but hear it, and it definitely makes you feel good."

The match also featured a number of innovative maneuvers, including Kidman's use of a version of a powerbomb off the top rope.

"That's a variation of another powerbomb I do, where I sit out," he said. "On Pay-Per-Views you want to have more impact, so I like to break out the big stuff."

It's somewhat ironic that the crowd reacted so well to the bout, especially considering that Kidman himself said on SmackDown! that no one was really looking forward to the bout.

"That was just something because they wanted to get me more airtime, so I was all for it," smiled Kidman. "I need to work on my promos, so any time I can get some airtime, I'll go with it."

The bout represents another step for the cruiserweight division, as it looks to become as prominent as it once was in the sports-entertainment world.

"There's definitely a long way to go," says Kidman, "but hopefully we can keep putting out performances like we did tonight, and it's definitely a step in the right direction. And we'll get going from there."
