Interview with Test

by Seth Mates

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Perhaps no one in sports entertainment benefited more from the "Alliance" storyline than Test. WWF.com sat down with the 26-year-old Toronto native backstage at Tuesday's SmackDown! taping to talk about his recent career developments, including his performance at Survivor Series.

WWF.com: Survivor Series was a big night in your career, first with your unification match against Edge, and then with your win in the Immunity Battle Royal. Talk a little bit about Survivor Series.

Test: The first match was definitely one of the best matches I've ever had. Very competitive. Very well thought out and well put together by myself and Edge. Edge and I have a history of working together, and I think it showed in that match. It was definitely one of my more proud matches to speak about. Being a part of the Immunity Battle Royal was great, and winning it makes it even better. With that stipulation, there are so many opportunities to do so much. I can't be fired for a year, so I can pretty much do anything I want until next year. There are some great storylines that I'm sure will come out of that. As far as the whole "Winner Take All" finale went, I thought it was very competitive, and a great match considering how many guys were involved. Usually matches like that don't come out as well as a singles or tag match. But I thought it was very well done, and overall, Survivor Series was a hell of a Pay-Per-View.

WWF.com: Was Survivor Series the most you've ever worked on one show?

Test: No, I've worked a lot on RAW before doing the same kind of style. Doing double duty is always a little tougher, but it's nice because the more TV time you get, the better it is.

WWF.com: What did it mean to you to hold the Intercontinental Championship?

Test: It was definitely one of the coolest moments of my career (when I won the title). I grew up watching guys like Honky Tonk Man and Ultimate Warrior -- all of those guys who held the title. And that title is like the next big belt, after the world title. Growing up watching it, and seeing all these greats who were here before who held it, holding it myself is definitely something cool.

WWF.com: What did jumping to the Alliance mean for your career?

Test: Moving to the Alliance was a big opportunity and I feel like I've taken full advantage of that. In this business, you only get handed the ball so many times, and when you get handed the ball, either you run with it or you drop it. And right now I feel like I'm running with the ball. WWF.com: Edge mentioned to us on Sunday that you are one of the guys he loves to work with - someone he feels like he could work with every night. Who do you feel like you could work with every night?

Test: Everyone here is great to work with, but there are certain guys you just click with all the time. I'd have to put Edge up there. I always have great matches with Christian. I really enjoy working with Undertaker as well.

(At this point in the interview, Edge walks by.)

Edge: You better be putting me over

at Survivor Series, he poked fun at your voice. What did you think of that?

Test: It's all in good fun. These guys are always imitating my voice. They're just jealous because they all sound like a bunch of little school kids and I have this deep voice.

(Terri walks over)

Test: Right, Terri? Tell them!

Terri: Test has a lot of testosterone.

Test: See? Told you. Chicks dig it.

(Terri walks away)

WWF.com: What was it like to have Ric Flair on the show last night?

Test: I definitely thought it was cool. A lot of surprises, a lot of twists. I'm definitely interested to see where it goes. Having Ric Flair in the company is definitely great. The guy is an icon and one of the best workers that ever stepped in the ring.

WWF.com: What about having Jerry "The King" Lawler back?

Test: I definitely missed him. Jerry, by far, is the most entertaining announcer in the business. He's so quick, and it's just so great to see him back. No one does announcing like King and J.R.

(Bubba Ray Dudley walks by)

Test: And the Dudleys, man - the Dudleys are the s**t!

(Bubba walks away)

WWF.com: So you're getting more and more excited every day for WrestleMania X-8, on your 27th birthday next year in your hometown of Toronto?

Test: Definitely, man, I'm looking forward to that. It's going to hopefully be the highlight of my career to be at WrestleMania at SkyDome on my birthday. WrestleMania was always one of the biggest spectacles ever when I was a kid growing up. We would always go and watch. I remember when it was there at SkyDome when Ultimate Warrior fought Hulk Hogan for the belt, and it was the biggest match ever back then. It would just be cool to be up there working in WrestleMania in SkyDome
